Sexually Transmitted Infections
Herpes
Symptoms:
- Small painful blisters (cold sores) around the mouth and genital area.
- Discharge from the anus.
- Pain when pissing.
- Irritation on the lips, anus and genitals.
- Flu-like symptoms as the infection spreads.
Treatment: 1 - 2 visits to the clinic
- Tablets and cream can reduce painful irritation and treat further outbreaks.
Herpes cannot be cured as the virus never leaves the body but outbreaks can be suppressed.
Prevention:
- Herpes is a virus passed on through sexual contact, anal and oral. You should not have sexual contact until the sores have healed.
- Using condoms will reduce the risk of infection.
