Worldwide HIV prosecutions increase

The number of people being prosecuted for passing on HIV is on the increase worldwide. In Canada, a man is on trial for first degree murder of two women who both died of AIDS related illnesses, as well as 13 counts of aggravated sexual assault for sleeping with women when he knew he had the virus. Another HIV positive man in Toronto was jailed for four-and-a-half years for having unprotected sex with two women; the court heard that he lied to the women about his HIV status.

In Germany, a 38 year old Kenyan immigrant was jailed for five-and-a-half years for assault and attempted assault after he failed to tell women that he was HIV positive before having unprotected sex with them. He said that he belived he was not very infectious as he was taking antiretrovirals.
